Camperdown Classics set for Ashenheim Stadium

February 12, 2026

Chairman of the planning committee of the Camperdown Classics, Camile Allen Walters, is upbeat about this year's 21st staging, which will be held at Ashenheim Stadium, Jamaica College this Saturday. In an interview with STAR Sports yesterday, she stated that all is in place for the meet.

"We are 90 per cent ready for the meet with three days to go, as all is in place and we expect another successful staging like former years," said Allen Walters.

"We will have over 2,000 participants from high schools, clubs, colleges and universities taking part," she added.

For the third time since its inception, the meet will not be staged inside the National Stadium, and she gave the reason for the change of venue.

"Because of lack of sponsorship we will be having the meet at a new venue which is less expensive," said Allen Walters.

However, she noted that in the near future they expect to return to the National Stadium.

"We will have the regular events in place, plus the senior 4x400m relays for men and women. With the cancellation of the Milo Western Relays we were asked to put both relays in place," she stated.

As usual, a former past student of the institution will be recognised, and this year the honouree will be former outstanding goalkeeper Peter Gordon, who played for the school in the last Manning Cup schoolboy football competition in the 1980s under coach Patrick 'Jackie' Walters.

Entry fee will see adults paying $1,000, while students with an ID will pay $500. In addition, there will be a covered area used as a grandstand, where it will cost $1,500.

The meet will begin at 9 a.m. with the Class Four boys' high jump in the field, and on the track the Class Four girls' 4x100m relay, with the senior Open men's 4x400m relay set to close out the meet at 6:45 p.m.
