A St Andrew event promoter who previously made headlines after allegedly trying to bribe a police officer to keep an illegal party going in Stony Hill has now been fined $110,000 in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.

Ian Parkes pleaded guilty when he appeared before the court on Monday in connection with the May 2 incident in Bowden Hill, Stony Hill.

According to court records, police officers moved to shut down an unauthorized event about 11:30 p.m. when Parkes allegedly attempted to convince one of the officers to allow the party to continue.

The court heard that Parkes handed over an envelope containing two $5,000 notes in an attempt to influence the cop during the operation.

Following his guilty plea, Parkes was fined $100,000 or 30 days imprisonment for bribery. He was also fined an additional $10,000 or 30 days imprisonment in relation to the illegal event.

As part of the proceedings, the presiding parish judge ordered Parkes to apologise to the police officer involved in the incident.

Parkes complied and issued an apology in open court.

Reports are that police responded to the event shortly before midnight on May 2 and took steps to bring the party to an end when the alleged bribery attempt occurred.
