Police in Portland are probing the alleged rape of a female College of Agriculture Science and Education student following a frightening incident on the institution's campus on Sunday night.

Detectives attached to the Port Antonio Criminal Investigations Branch say the student had exited a taxi on the college's property and was walking towards the administrative office when she was reportedly grabbed from behind by unknown assailant or assailants.

She was allegedly sexually assaulted.

Further details surrounding the incident have not been confirmed.

In the meantime, the College of Agriculture Science and Education has issued a statement indicating that it is providing the necessary support to the student involved and remains committed to the safety and well-being of all students.

The institution is also encouraging students to move in groups where possible and to report any suspicious behaviour to campus security or the Directorate of Students Affairs.
