Cornwall, Clarendon in Ben Francis final
Two sizzling goals from Shakeem Gibson launched Cornwall College into the ISSA Ben Francis KO Cup final with a 2-0 victory over former champions McGrath High at Drax Hall Sports Complex yesterday.
Stepping right along with them into the final are Clarendon College with 4-1 penalty shootout victory over The Manning's School.
The finals will take place on Saturday, with a doubleheader featuring the Ben Francis KO Cup at 3 p.m, followed by the daCosta Cup final at the National Stadium at 6 p.m.
In an intense encounter, Cornwall's Gibson open the scoring in the 38th minute and completed his brace in the 81st to hammer the final nail in McGrath's coffin.
The win gives Cornwall a shot at winning an unmatched eighth Ben Francis KO title.
In the other encounter, Clarendon's Anthony Reid registered his seventh goal of the season to hand his team the lead in the 12th minute. However, Manning's quarterfinal hero Jordan Tuner levelled in the 53rd minute, from a crafty assist by Kajaye Williams.
The game ended 1-1 in regulation, but it was Clarendon's confidence and accuracy that would outshine Manning's in the penalty shootout.
With back-to-back finals appearances, Clarendon will look forward to lifting their fourth title.
